November 25, 2020 – Repost

Still on Break. Here is what things looked like in 2020. Environment:Start Time: 2:10 PM Temperature: 48 degrees Sky: Sunny, no clouds, no breeze The day started in a shroud of fog and a good layer of frost. I Finally made it out to Lake Pueblo State Park in the mid-afternoon when the conditions were much improved. This time of year the Sun angle in the afternoon is still low enough to allow for decent photo opportunities. Once again, the bird population did not take advantage of this useful light. So today’s featured image is of a group of White-Crowned…

January 02, 2021 Re-post

Environment:Start Time: 2:00 PM Temperature: 53 degrees Sky: Sunny, high clouds, light wind First outing in 2021. A basically ideal day if you ignored the wind. Apparently the smaller birds were not inclined to do so except for a group of Bushtits who were too busy to get their picture taken. Hawks were out really enjoying the wind but they used it mostly to circle high in the sky. I did get a couple of shots of a Red-tailed Hawk perched pretty far away and those shots are posted here. I’m pretty sure National Geographic isn’t going to be calling…

December 05, 2020 Re-post

I’m into day seven of my ten day Isolation sentence – starting to feel a lot better. Once again a retro-post with some pretty cool Kingfisher shots form this day in 2020. Environment:Start Time: 11:30 AM Temperature: 51 degrees Sky: Sunny, no clouds, light breeze Spectacular weather continues. I’m not sure why the birds are making themselves so scarce. Maybe the continued presence of Red-Tails and Kestrels has something to do with it – not sure. That is not to say that today’s photo efforts went unrewarded. I managed to spot a male Belted Kingfisher perched along the Arkansas River…

November 30, 2020 Re-post

After returning from my Holiday visit to San Francisco I am facing two issues. First, of course, is the super cold weather and, second, I managed to pick up a bug somewhere along the way. Right now I am thinking (hoping) chest cold but I am not in a position to go out walking in the woods. Instead I am dipping into two years of archived posts and giving you, my loyal reader, a little trip down memory lane. Enjoy. Environment:Start Time: 2:40 PM Temperature: 60 degrees Sky: Sunny, no clouds, light breeze The last day of November turned to…

November 08, 2021

Environment:Start Time: 8:30 AM Temperature: 48 degrees Sky: Sunshine, few clouds and noticeable breeze Beautiful weather continued to please this morning at Lake Pueblo State Park. I’m not sure why the birds are not out enjoying it but I managed to come home with some (not sexy) postables anyway. The featured image is another Gadwall Duck enjoying the Arkansas River. She had several girlfriends with her on the outing. Posted here is a White-crowned Sparrow (says Google) who got my attention by sitting still in really nice light. I wish this bird would give lessons to everyone else. Below is…

Environment:Start Time: 7:45 AM Temperature: 51 degrees Sky: Sunshine, few clouds and noticeable breeze Daylight Savings Time is upon us and it now looks like I’ve gotten up earlier to take my tour of Lake Pueblo State Park. That’s dedication. I think most of the birds forgot to set their clocks back because it was pretty still out this morning. The leaves are starting to show the wear of the season but there is still color to be found – especially when you view the leaves with back lighting. Today’s featured image is a Ring-billed Gull who, along with some…
