Environment:Start Time: 9:25 AM Temperature: 44 degrees Sky: Cloud filtered sunshine. Walking conditions were much better this morning but birding conditions remain disappointing. I think yesterday’s wind blew away all the little birds. The bigger birds were keeping their distance today. The image posted below is an example of the kind of distance I’m talking about. I took the shot in hopes of at least making an ID of the largish bird I saw perched in the distant tree. I don’t usually post ID photos but this one is kind of intriguing because when I cropped in on my computer…

Environment:Start Time: 9:10 AM Temperature: 61 degrees Sky: Cloud filtered sunshine, moderate wind. Check out last year’s walk on this day here I didn’t realize how windy it was this morning when I left the house so conditions at Lake Pueblo were kind of a surprise. The wind, though warm, was quite annoying. I ended up cutting today’s tour down to just a mile because there was not much happening other than leaves blowing all around. It’s kind of funny that last year on this day (November 13, 2020) I complained about the wind as well and only got one…

Environment:Start Time: 7:20 AM Temperature: 59 degrees Sky: Sunshine, few clouds, little haze, no breeze. Another very clear day for me and my shadow to enjoy a walk by the Arkansas River. My avian friends continued playing hard to get. I still managed to come away with some captures. There were a couple of Great Horned Owls perched in the fire damaged area by the Osprey Picnic Area one of whom (I believe a female) is today’s featured image. Both of them are pictured below. I also got the best shot yet of what I believe to be a Solitary…

Environment:Start Time: 2:10 PM Temperature: 44 degrees Sky: Sunny, few clouds, intermittent breeze The temperature finally reached a level that I deemed “walkable” with only a mild breeze so I made it out of the house this afternoon for a good long walk. I came today carrying the appropriate equipment for getting some bird photos. Today’s featured image of an American Kestrel demonstrates that I made a good decision. I was also lucky enough to catch a Greater Yellowlegs poking around the Arkansas River – his portrait is posted below. The one thing that struck me as I walked was…

Environment:Start Time: 10:45 AM Temperature: 49 degrees Sky: Sunshine, light breeze Merry Christmas. Looking around this morning it was fairly obvious that today would not be a White Christmas. Snow rarely falls with temperatures in the high forties. Great day for walking for sure. The park was not super busy with only a few fishermen (probably trying out new gear) and even fewer walkers or runners (I saw one of each.) Not too many birds, either. I did shoot some images of Goldeneye ducks. Just to be sure, I ran one shot through Google Lens and discovered that these ducks…
