November 12, 2021 – Repost

Here is another post pulled from the archives. Environment:Start Time: 3:30 PM Temperature: 55 degrees Sky: Cloud filtered sunshine, little breeze As colder morning temperatures start to make their appearances in the Autumn I change my walking schedule to put me at Lake Pueblo State Park in the late afternoon. This is what happened today and, all in all, things went pretty well. On my way into the park I was struck by the late afternoon light that was falling onto Liberty Point so I pulled over and took one of the landscapes posted below. After that I continued on…

Environment:Start Time: 11:05 AM Temperature: 45 degrees Sky: Mix of Sun and clouds, light breeze The sunny weather that greeted me as I woke up this morning started to deteriorate as noon approached. So I adjusted my walking plans and decided to have a stroll by the river before lunch. My flexibility was greatly rewarded when I spotted what I first though was a Red-tailed Hawk perched high up on one of the (too many) power poles that march through Lake Pueblo State Park. I did not change my mind about the bird until I heard him/her speak out clearly….

Environment:Start Time: 1:15 PM Temperature: 65 degrees Sky: Sunny, high clouds, no breeze Colder mornings always lead to later walks. Really quiet out at the river, birdwise. Peoplewise things were hopping. Once again I was armed for scenics and closeups which, obviously, was a good decision. The color is starting to tone down as we get deeper into Autumn, though the problem may simply be the lack of the morning low angle light. Today’s images are on the boring side. The featured image is some more Autumn (non-Aspen) leaves and below I have posted yet another portrait of Liberty Point…

Environment:Start Time: 8:17 AM Temperature: 56 degrees Sky: Sunny and blue, light breeze Liberty Point Takes the Stage Late start this morning paid off when some terrific sunshine finally rose above the low morning clouds. Today’s bird stars were Flickers and Osprey. Both brands were very busy and very shy. I got one shot of an Osprey perched over the Arkansas River with Liberty Point standing proudly in the background – today’s featured image. I had another chance to get an Osprey perching over the river and I hoped to be able to get some shots of him taking flight….

July 08, 2020 Part 2

After taking a look out of my kitchen window around 7:45 PM and seeing a sky with tremendous potential to deliver some dramatic scenic vistas, I grabbed my camera (and Whisper) and we made a beeline for Lake Pueblo State Park. I have to admit that I did not get the picture that I had in mind, though I might have if I’d set up shop on the South end of the dam instead of the North end, I think I still got some great shots. Featured image above and all those below were captured with the Nikon. All in…

Windy and warm pretty much describes the park this morning at 6:10. I knew it would be windy when I left the house but I was surprised by how strongly it was blowing at our favorite walking venue. Since the wind was coming primarily from the West it added a noticeable warming component to the 73 degree air temperature. Though the light was quite good it was generally uncomfortable overall. All of this being said, it should come as no surprise that I settled for just the shorter dog walking tour and called it quits after that. Whisper was happy….

Another late start this AM – got going around 6:20 in a very pleasant 58 degrees. The sky had a strange haze to it that filtered the sun but didn’t kill the light. I don’t know if the haze is a result of a reported wildfire west of the park or if it a Saudi dust cloud that is currently encircling the earth. Whatever the source it rendered Pikes Peak unseeable today. Though I saw a number of birds and critters today I was not focusing (if you like this pun then it was intentional) on them. I elected to…

Started out this morning (6:20) in 66 degree heat – the hottest start so far in 2020. Abundant sunshine might have made the walk miserable but a steady breeze helped make things seem cooler. The breeze also helped keep the annoying flying bugs in check. As far as wildlife photography goes there was not much going on. I did sight a “new” hawk but was unable to identify it. I was standing by a tree on the river bank wondering why all the swallows (who were doing their acrobatics right in front of me) were chirping loudly. This is not,…
