Environment:Start Time: 2:25 PM Temperature: 64 degrees Sky: Sunshine little breeze The weather finally broke my way and allowed me to get out for my first walk of 2022. The combined effects of the recent cold, snow and wind have left Lake Pueblo State Park in pretty good shape. I only saw a couple of new-fallen trees and the trails were almost completely free of ice and mud. The bird population still seems low to me. Environment:Start Time: 6:45 AM Temperature: 59 degrees Sky: Mostly sunny. Light breeze. The Sun was finally able to muscle through the haze and clouds this morning and shed some glorious light onto Lake Pueblo State Park. A light breeze made walking quite pleasant. Even though birding was pretty much limited to the usual suspects, there was one bit of excitement on the banks of the Arkansas River. A Belted Kingfisher had caught what looked to me like a crayfish and was flying over to a perch when a Grackle (I think) swooped in to try and steel the Kingfisher’s prize….

Maybe the continued presence of Red-Tails and Kestrels has something to do with it – not sure. That is not to say that today’s photo efforts went unrewarded. Looks like I will not have a reason to stay home for a while. The walking conditions were ideal, as were the photographic conditions, but I encountered very few willing subjects along the trail. Environment:Start Time: 8:35 AM Temperature: 43 degrees Sky: Sunny, no clouds, no breeze Mountain Daylight Time arrived today in fine style. Another great day for a walk by the Arkansas River. I was hoping the birds would feel the same – only flying. Unfortunately, the birds were not of the same mind – especially the bigger birds. No Osprey, Hawks or Eagles. Environment:Start Time: 8:20 AM Temperature: 42 degrees Sky: Sunshine, few clouds, light breeze, Blue sky Autumn continues to take root at Lake Pueblo State Park in grand form. This was an excellent day to be out there especially since the there was no noticeable wildfire haze to be seen. Pikes Peak was visible in all its splendor as were the Wet Mountains.
